About the Show
Inspired by the beloved, award-winning family film of the same name, Her Majesty The Musical is now in development as a cross-cultural, multi-generational appealing, unapologetic Broadway style production. Mark J. Gordon who wrote and directed the movie will pen the book and lyrics; three time Tony Award winner, Doug Besterman, will compose the musical score, imbuing Golden-Age melodies with contemporary energy.

1953. As a quiet, provincial New Zealand town struggling with the residue of its colonial past prepares for a once-in-a-lifetime royal visit, an indefatigable Pakeha tween (and inveterate letter-writer), who dreams of meeting The Queen, finds her fervent hopes put in jeopardy when she develops an unlikely, life-changing friendship with an elderly Maori woman who harbors few endearing feelings for the British Monarchy, and whose house - a sore spot with the matrons of the town - is directly on the parade route past which the Queen will travel. Truth clashes with revisionist history and the status quo; there’s a zesty rivalry betwixt Rhododendrons and cheese; and dark family secrets are revealed while loyalty and friendships are tested in a song and dance-worthy tapestry of events all designed to help our heroine grapple with the question of who she really is... as she comes of age at the same time her town and country start down the very same path. The delightful result is a timeless parable about race relations and identity which seamlessly transcends age, gender and culture.
